A calm checklist for your UK visit visa application

8 October 2026. 5 minute read.

Most refusals come down to missing or inconsistent evidence. This checklist helps you present a clear, honest application.

A Standard Visitor visa lets you visit the UK for tourism, family, business meetings and short courses, usually for up to six months. The officer reviewing your application needs to understand who you are, why you are visiting and why you will return home.

Before you start

  • A passport valid for the whole of your stay, with a blank page.
  • Your travel dates and a realistic plan for the trip.
  • The address where you will stay.

Evidence that tells your story

  • Bank statements that show your usual income and spending, not a sudden deposit.
  • A letter from your employer or school confirming your role and approved leave.
  • An invitation letter if you are visiting family or attending a business event, with your host’s status in the UK.
  • Evidence of ties at home: family, property, studies or ongoing work.

Common mistakes

  • Dates or amounts that don’t match between the form and your documents.
  • Funds that look borrowed for the application.
  • Leaving out a previous refusal. Always declare your immigration history.

After you apply

You will attend a visa application centre for fingerprints and a photo. Keep copies of everything you submit; they help if you need to apply again in future.

AJOVIA reviews every document before you submit and keeps your checklist in your portal. Decisions are made by UK Visas and Immigration.

This guide is general information, not legal advice. Requirements change, so always confirm with the official source before you apply or travel.
